          |  Patmos has been nominated in 1999, from Committee of Monuments of World Heritage of UNESCO monument of world heritage of UNESCO for the Historical centre Chora, the Abbey of Saint Ioannis of Theologian, and the Cavern of Revelation. Patmos lays at the most northern part of the prefecture of Dodecanese. The landscape of the island offers both plains and hills, finishing at lace-like beaches, with beautiful blue waters and many tiny islands around it. The distance between Patmos and the harbour of Piraeus is 158 nautical miles. The island is only 34 km big, with a maximum length of 25 km. The permanent inhabitants of the island are 2973, according to the inventory of 2001. The nature is a mixture of wildness and calmness, making the island very attractive, yet magical. Most of the inhabitants live in Chora, Skala, the islands port, Kampos and Grikos. The climate is mainly dry and there are mostly northern winds. Its magnetic atmosphere everywhere creates faithful fans with identical expectations and memories of the island. Patmos is a unique place. He is not accidental that is the beloved destination of exigent travelers from the international jet-set. INFORMATION Patmos has not an airport, but it is easy to get to the island by fling Olympic Airways from Athens to the nearby island of Leros, Samos or Kos and then travel by the catamaran, flying Dolphin or the other sea-lines boats to Patmos. It is connected however daily with Piraeus, with Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Ikaria and Samos, giving you the possibility visit also other islands.
